Limited assistance is available each fall and spring semester to cover transportation costs between schools coming for a docent-led tour of the Museum. This assistance is made possible through the generous support of the Docent Bus Fund Endowment and the Liebelt Bus Fund.
How schools are chosen to participate
Schools must meet ALL of the following criteria in order to be eligible:
- The school is geographically located within Jefferson County, Alabama.
- The majority of the students are eligible for free or reduced lunch.
- The school has not previously received bus funds during the current school year.
- The school has no outstanding balance owed to the Museum.
If your school is eligible, please book your tour before filling out and submitting the application below. The Education Department awards assistance on a first-come, first-served basis.
What is covered
The cost of round-trip bus transportation between the school and the Museum is covered up to a maximum of two buses per visit. A minimum of 30 students is required per bus. If awarded bus funding, invoices must be submitted to the Museum within 60 days following the date of the tour.
In case of late cancellations or no-shows
In addition to the Museum’s late cancellation fee, any bills received by the Education Department for transportation expenses will be forwarded to the principal of the school for payment.
