Lobby Projects: Artist Talk With Bethany Collins

On Saturday, April 16, the Birmingham Museum of Art debuted its new series, lobby projects, an initiative which invites contemporary artists to create site-specific works in the Museum’s main entrance. Alabama native, Bethany Collins served as the inaugural artist and on April 16 she presented her work The Problem We All Live With, a mixed-media installation that uses archives of The Birmingham News to explore the intersection of race, language, and violence.

On opening night, Collins delivered a thoughtful review of recent work, detailing her obsession with language and explaining how her practice has evolved over the last several years. Watch her talk:
