The Carroll was a family of wealthy planters in colonial Maryland. Charles Carroll was a delegate to the Continental Congress and one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. He married Mary Darnall in 1768. This service perhaps belonged to their only surviving son, Charles Carroll, Jr.
