BMA Director Receives NAACP Award

September 4, 2018 / Community News, Staff Updates

In July, Director Graham Boettcher was awarded the 2018 Metro Birmingham NAACP Community Empowerment Award. The award acknowledges the contribution of an individual who has strongly supported the well-being of the community by focusing on areas such as economic growth, education and/or political and social justice.

“I am honored to accept this award largely on behalf of the Birmingham Museum of Art, where we strive everyday to thoughtfully cultivate an environment of inclusivity and awareness by presenting art that highlights different perspectives on many issues confronting societies today and in the past,” says Boettcher.

The mission of the NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.
