The Birmingham Museum of Art welcomes individuals of all abilities to visit the collections and participate in educational programs.
The Museum is fully accessible to all visitors. Special needs are met with designated parking spaces and a ground level entrance adjacent to the Museum parking lot. A limited number of wheelchairs and assisted listening devices (for programs in Steiner Auditorium) are available at the security station near the parking lot entrance. Seating is also available in Steiner Auditorium close to the stage. Special tours for visitors with hearing and visual impairments can be arranged in advance. Call 205.254.2964 to schedule a tour.
Braille maps are available for visitors with visual impairments. Please ask at the Information Desk in the Lobby, at the security desks at each entrance, or in the Education office.
Second Saturdays, 10–11am
In this program for adults, specially trained docents present the permanent collection by means of verbal descriptions, three-dimensional tactile models based on original works of art, and sculpture. The experience may be enhanced by related music and/or art-making to provide multi-sensory access to the visual arts.
