In May, the Birmingham Museum of Art presented A Portrait of Our City, the 2013 Museum Ball.
Museum Ball Chairs, Mr. and Mrs. John O. Hudson III, and Men’s Committee Co-Chairs, Mr. Edgar B. Marx, Jr. and Mr. Charles Simpson, welcomed the guests as they arrived. Tables were set throughout the Museum and all who attended dined among the Museum’s extensive collection. The atmosphere was filled with a contemporary elegance designed by Jill Garmon of A.G. Lighting. Guests enjoyed the culinary creations of Gianni Respinto of Gianmarco’s in Homewood and were expertly served by the staff of A Social Affair. Afterwards, everyone danced to the sounds of Big Swing & the Ballroom Blasters. Since 1956, the annual Museum Ball fundraiser benefits the Museum’s extensive educational and outreach opportunities offered to schools throughout the region.

More than 180 individuals attended the Annual Donor Appreciation Dinner on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Birmingham Museum of Art. Honored guests began their evening with cocktails and a guided tour of Future Perfect, the Museum’s 60th anniversary collection of gifted works. The tour was led by Deputy Director and Chief Curator Jeannine O’Grody.
After the tour members, donors and staff gathered for an elegant dinner to celebrate the Museum’s many achievements in 2012 and to set an aggressive agenda for 2013. Gail Andrews, R. Hugh Daniel Director, shared highlights from the Museum’s 2012 exhibitions, education initiatives, art acquisitions, and other outstanding accomplishments. Gail ended the evening with an exciting announcement. Coinciding with the 25th Anniversary of the Museum’s Asian Art Curator, Don Wood, the complete Jimmy and Henry Weldon Asian Art Collection was donated by Mrs. Jimmy Weldon, present that evening, to the Museum’s Asian Art Collection.
Mayor Bell ended the evening with closing remarks and expressed his appreciation for all donors, members, volunteers and staff who help make the Birmingham Museum of Art one of the finest regional museums in the United States.
