Local educators are invited to join us for an exciting series of workshops this summer! These workshops are designed to help teachers integrate the arts into their existing curriculum. We’ll take a look at works from many areas of the Museum’s collection, but will focus mainly on the contemporary art and issues at work in the Museum’s compelling exhibit of contemporary art from around the world. Our May 26 workshop will look at folk art and contemporary art from the American South, and discuss ways to integrate such works into a social studies and language arts curriculum. We will look closely at the post-Civil War era, rural poverty, the Civil Rights Movement, and the intersection of popular culture (sports, music) with politics. Our hope is that this will provide your students with a broader view of history, government, and literature as they learn how to see their subjects from new and exciting angles.
