Works by students from Shelton State Community College, Drawing I & Drawing II from 2011-2016
Instructor: Jennifer Jaia Chen

The Shelton State Community College Student Art Exhibition consists of artwork created by Shelton State students over the last five years. These selected works are representative of two dimensional conceptual-theme based projects. Students explore ideas such as identity, image and mark making, architectural environment, history, macrocosm vs. microcosm, and other worldly construction. These students come from diverse backgrounds. For many, these artworks are products of their first college art course.

Even though most of these students are not pursuing careers in the fine arts, they all have a distinctive interest in art. As their instructor, mentor, and advisor, it has been a pleasure and an exciting challenge working with each of them. My aim in curating this show is to showcase these talented young individuals and to display their pride and love for art-making. Their works are a testament to the importance of art as part of the educational curriculum and the creative dimension of the human spirit.

Please join us on Friday, February 10 at 5pm for an opening reception.
