Treasures Of India (8:00 am)
December 15-30, 2012, a group from the Birmingham Museum of Art will travel to India on a 15-day custom-designed luxury tour. The group will visit lesser known marvels and sites as well as the legendary monuments of Rajasthan, Agra, and Delhi, exploring beyond the usual tourist routes of this emerging superpower.
Our tour begins in Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay. The most populous city in India, Mumbai is considered the Gateway to India. From there we travel to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the cave complexes of Ajanta and Ellora, to the incredible Palace of the Winds in Jaipur and the City Palace of Udaipur, the exotic temples of Ranakpur and Jagdish, the famed Jaisalmer, Mehrangarh and Red Forts, and the Taj Mahal. We end our stay in Delhi where we visit the ancient and modern sites of this bustling metropolis. Travel to these cities and sites will take us through the marvelous countryside of India by plane and private coach. Luxury hotels and exceptional regional cuisine await us at each stop.
Dr. Donald A. Wood, Senior Curator and Curator of Asian Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art and Dr. Cathleen Cummings, Asian Art Historian at the University of Alabama at Birmingham will provide scholarly support for the tour. You will also be accompanied by Commander L.M. Krishnan, the CEO of Starline Travels, who will assist in understanding all that makes India such a diverse and yet a cohesive country.
PLEASE CHECK BACK SOON for photos from this once in a lifetime trip, and for information on future Museum travel.
Tour organized by Starline Travels Limited, India.
