John Morton Lecture In Photography // BMA Presents Dru Donovan (6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)
FREE // STEINER AUDITORIUM
Dru Donovan will deliver the 5th annual John Morton Lecture in Photography on November 30. In her photographs, Donovan explores the body and life’s daily rituals and interactions. Some of her photographs depict situations witnessed and photographed in real time, while others are created with false backdrops, models, and props. Donovan says that, “the construction and staging of scenes allow me to locate and investigate the intersection between one reality that exists and another imagined.”
Donovan’s work has been included in recent exhibitions at the Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, Switzerland, and the Orange County Museum of Art (California). Donovan earned a BFA from California College of the Arts and an MFA from Yale School of Art, both in Photography. While at Yale, she was awarded the Richard Benson prize for excellence. Donovan was appointed lecturer in photography at Yale in 2011.
For more information on Donovan, visit her website. Click here for an interview ASX did with Donovan in 2011.
Since 2008, the BMA’s John Morton Lecture in Photography has presented photographers on the cutting edge of art and culture. Sponsored by Birmingham philanthropist and collector John Morton, the lecture is always free and open to the public.
