Three birds are depicted on a grassy hilltop with mountains populating the background. The bird on the left crouches forward while the two birds on the right stand upright and alert. The bird on the far right is completely white, and the other two birds have white edged wings with black and yellow striping on their bodies. This patterning is more pronounced on the left bird.

Here it is seen from a point on State Street, looking northwest. The street in front of the opera house—filled with people, horse-drawn carriages, and dogs—bustles with activity. A large tree, perhaps an oak, dominates the foreground at left of center.
