More than 800 Students from Fairfield City Schools painted a decommissioned fire hose, similar to the fire hoses found in the exhibition by Theaster Gates. This hose was donated by the Fairfield Fire Department as a dedication to the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement at their annual Cultural Arts Festival.
More than 2,000 families attended District 8’s annual Party with a Purpose fun day in Ensley Park. After learning about Romare Bearden’s piece, The Dove, participants created decorative quilt squares as part of a community quilt project and a calendar to be distributed to the district’s constituents.
