5 Things to do at Hispanic Heritage Festival

/ Kids and Families

Cosijo IllustrationWe hope you’re making plans to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the BMA! This is one fiesta you won’t want to miss. With so many opportunities for family-friendly fun, here’s a list of just a few of the things you can do at our festival on Saturday.

  1. Learn to Salsa.
Put on your dancing shoes and join the Huntsville dance group Clave Y Tumbao Alabama for Salsa lessons in the cafe! The group will perform Salsa and Bachata throughout the day, so even if you don’t hit the dance floor yourself, you can enjoy the beauty of this tradition.
  2. Take a Spanish language gallery tour.
What’s a trip to the Museum without a tour? Explore the BMA’s galleries with our Spanish speaking tour guides in these family friendly festival tours.
  3. Catch a movie in the auditorium.
Remember that funny Disney movie starring the Incan emperor who is turned into a llama by his power hungry advisor? We’re showing The Emperor’s New Groove in both English and Spanish on Saturday.
  4. Grab lunch in the Sculpture Garden.
It wouldn’t be a fiesta without local latin fare! Tropicaleo and Taco Morro Loco will be serving up delicious traditional treats in the garden all day. Looking for something on the sweet side? Grab a popsicle from Lichita’s Paleteria y Neveria. Good luck choosing just one flavor!
  5. Make your own work of art.
Unleash your creative side! Visitors of all ages will enjoy crafts inspired by latin culture and traditions. Screen print your own tote bag, make an animal pinch pot, and be part of the big picture with our interactive mural. Don’t miss the Otomi embroidery workshop!
